Psalm 127
Unless the Lord Builds the House
1. A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. 1 Unless the Lord builds the house, 1 those who build it labor in vain. 1 Unless the Lord watches over the city, 1 the watchman stays awake in vain.
2. It is in vain that you rise up early 2 and go late to rest, 2 eating the bread of anxious toil; 2 for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, 3 the fruit of the womb a reward.
4. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior 4 are the children[a] of one's youth.
5. Blessed is the man 5 who fills his quiver with them! 5 He shall not be put to shame 5 when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.[b]
