The Bride Confesses Her Love
2. She[a] 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! 2 For your love is better than wine;
3. your anointing oils are fragrant; 3 your name is oil poured out; 3 therefore virgins love you.
4. Draw me after you; let us run. 4 The king has brought me into his chambers. 4 Others 4 We will exult and rejoice in you; 4 we will extol your love more than wine; 4 rightly do they love you.
5. She 5 I am very dark, but lovely, 5 O daughters of Jerusalem, 5 like the tents of Kedar, 5 like the curtains of Solomon.
6. Do not gaze at me because I am dark, 6 because the sun has looked upon me. 6 My mother's sons were angry with me; 6 they made me keeper of the vineyards, 6 but my own vineyard I have not kept!
7. Tell me, you whom my soul loves, 7 where you pasture your flock, 7 where you make it lie down at noon; 7 for why should I be like one who veils herself 7 beside the flocks of your companions?
Solomon and His Bride Delight in Each Other
8. He 8 If you do not know, 8 O most beautiful among women, 8 follow in the tracks of the flock, 8 and pasture your young goats 8 beside the shepherds' tents.
9. I compare you, my love, 9 to a mare among Pharaoh's chariots.
10. Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments, 10 your neck with strings of jewels.
11. Others 11 We will make for you[b] ornaments of gold, 11 studded with silver.
12. She 12 While the king was on his couch, 12 my nard gave forth its fragrance.
13. My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh 13 that lies between my breasts.
14. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms 14 in the vineyards of Engedi.
15. He 15 Behold, you are beautiful, my love; 15 behold, you are beautiful; 15 your eyes are doves.
16. She 16 Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, truly delightful. 16 Our couch is green;
17. the beams of our house are cedar; 17 our rafters are pine.
