Isaiah 27
1. On that day Adonai, 1 with his great, strong, relentless sword, 1 will punish Livyatan the fleeing serpent, 1 the twisting serpent Livyatan; 1 he will slay the sea monster.
2. On that day, a pleasant vineyard — 2 sing about it!
3. “I, Adonai, guard it. 3 Moment to moment I water it. 3 So that no harm will come to it, 3 I guard it night and day.
4. I have no anger in me. 4 If it gives me briars and thorns, 4 then, as in war, I will trample it down 4 and burn it up at once;
5. unless it takes hold of my strength, 5 in order to make peace with me, 5 yes, to make peace with me.”
6. The time is coming when Ya‘akov will take root; 6 Isra’el will bud and flower, 6 and fill the whole world with a harvest.
7. [Adonai] will not strike Isra’el, 7 as he did others who struck Isra’el; 7 he will not kill them, 7 as he did the others.
8. Your controversy with her is fully resolved 8 by sending her [into exile]. 8 He removes her with a rough gust of wind 8 on a day when it’s blowing from the east.
9. So the iniquity of Ya‘akov is atoned for by this, 9 and removing his sin produces this result: 9 he chops up all the altar stones like chalk — 9 sacred poles and sun-pillars stand no more.
10. For the fortified city is alone, 10 abandoned and deserted, like the desert. 10 Calves graze and lie down there, 10 stripping its branches bare.
11. When its harvest dries up, it is broken off; 11 women come and set it on fire. 11 For this is a people without understanding. 11 Therefore he who made them will not pity them, 11 he who formed them will show them no mercy.
12. On that day Adonai will beat out the grain 12 between the Euphrates River and the Vadi of Egypt; 12 and you will be gathered, one by one, 12 people of Isra’el!
13. On that day a great shofar will sound. 13 Those lost in the land of Ashur will come, 13 also those scattered through the land of Egypt; 13 and they will worship Adonai 13 on the holy mountain in Yerushalayim.
